What a relief!!!
Out in the car today and after a few minutes heard a grinding noise from the right rear wheel.
PANIC.
Got the car back, had a cursory look but couldn't see anything obvious. Took the wheel off fearing the worst. I found that the bottom of the back plate had bent inwards toward the disc trapping a very small stone. Bent the plate back, stone fell out.........result..........no more grinding noise.
One happy tree frog again.

The French still seem to love loose chippings as a road mending material. I had a similar experience after driving into Saumur in June and it wasn't the first time this has happened to me on French roads.
Easy fixed which is more than can be said for the gravel rash on the front bumper.

Glad it was a simple thing like a rock stuck by a bent plate.
I wasn't so lucky last week as my '12 XJL got keyed while parking at a hotel. Double scratch all the way across the top of the trunk. No chance for it to be accidental. The risks of driving a special car that could generate envy and anger in some people. BTW - the car was parked normally in a normal parking space as I am very much aware how some people who take 2 spaces can generate some anger. :-(
