Default Wheel care

One of my wheels contains some brake dust pitting, so I used some polishing compound which successfully removed most of it. As you know, polishing compound is somewhat abrasive, so I'm wondering what else I removed.

Would someone confirm that these 19" stock wheels are aluminum wheels that are painted and then clearcoat ?

Thanks.

Yes, they are painted and clear coated. You probably took off some clear coat with the compound; not to mention the damage from pitting.

If you can't live with it, get the wheels refinished. Should cost about $150 a wheel and look like brand new. You can change the color if you want as well.

Weekly cleaning with brake dust cleaner is your best bet moving forward. Get some good wheel brushes.

Don't be afraid to work on that wheel. If you haven't cut thru the paint on your wheel you can touch it up with Dupli Color Ultra Silver Metallic BGM0508 followed by Dupli Color High Perf Wheel Coating.

You will be surprised how good you get with a little practice. Read and follow the directions.

You beat me to my next question. Thanks. I'm assuming I should be able to do this with the tire still on the wheel, perhaps using some masking tape ?
