Those above appear to be yellow covers, not painted calipers.

They are the optional 19" factory wheels known as Carelia's.

Too bad you're on the other side of the 'big pond', or I'd let you try my Carelia's on your car (I like the look of the Senta's I put on better), so you could see if they really made that much of a difference, as I can't say they do.
There might not be much of a difference.
Are the 5 and 8MM hubcentric or are you catching the edge of the hub?
And yet in a review of the 2007, the 18" Venus were reported to look very stylish.
And we have already discussed how much superior the ride and performance is when running 18" over larger diameters.
Nothing ridiculous about that!

I have 20"s and have lowered the car and find the ride in the Jag very smooth, not harsch at all but I'm only 51 years old!:-D
Tires are springs that do not benefit from the control of the damper + spring.
I would say that if you want a more comfortable ride the difference between 19" and 20" would be less than if you were playing with tire pressures.
The 18" has an advantage of being less expensive, and likely does have a softer construction.
I would only make the change from stock 20's(If your car has them) if you like the aesthetics of 19's better.
Otherwise it would be better to get a set of softer rate springs if ride is your primary concern.

As I’ve mentioned in other threads, the 19’s that came on my car, with Bridgestone tires, had what I thought was a nice ride.
I then bought some 20’s and put the Conti DWS 06 tires (that were raved about on this forum) on them, and the ride was like mush. Very squishy, too soft for me. I love the look of the 20’s, but I can’t justify tossing out the tires, so I’ve compensated by increasing the tire pressure (4 lbs over the door placard).
