Those Maybachs are hugely heavy. Over three tons! Guess they NEED the 600 hp they have.

There are a couple for sale locally, and the price used sure is a huge drop from the original $350K-$400K MSRP.
For the Maybach or Rolls Royce I always think you need to have a driver. If you buy it you need to be sitting in the back!!!

A friend has a used car business and his buddy bought one that needed "light body work". Ended up being that every single little part has price tag in line with a 400K new car. Ended up be extremely cost to repair and work on. They are not just Mercedes parts for many items. Some of part quotes (like headlight) were just on another planet...

If you are looking at that kind of car, an +05 Arnage is the way to go.

Still looking...

The XKR is very sparse in Canada. I'm having a hard time finding one in the condition, color, and options I want. Also, with the Canadian dollar (loonie) gone south the great deals in the US market don't make sense. I'm also looking at F-type's. I want more of a sports car than a luxury car so the Maybach is not on my list. My list includes P 911 turbo S, F-type R or SVR, Audi R8 V10 plus...etc.

I received my mothers car--she is no longer able to drive. It is a 2009 Toyota Camry with 9,000 miles and drives like new. It is super easy on gas and I can park it anywhere, drive it in the winter, and maintenance is easy. I was always concerned about someone hitting or damaging my XKR. However, the Toyota does put a smile on my face, for a different reason, it is not the silly one I miss when I was driving the XKR. I'm in no hurry and will wait for the right deal. The buyer always holds the trump card.

Is a car north of $200K Can. within your budget? (I don't want to post something that will only be a teaser.)

How about a Aston Martin Rapide? That is coolest looking car with 4 doors on the market. Handling is very precise, really stiff chassis yet suspension is just right.

Speaking of Aston Martin's, I came across this little story...

Jessica Liu is angry over $132,000 costs for repair of luxury, $200,000 Aston Martin - See more at:

Richmond driver of Bond-style car shaken, stirred over bill

The damage doesn't look too severe right?

"cost of a pair of brake rotors ($30,000, plus labour)"

“I’m not going to pay a cent; I don’t even want the car back anymore; I want a refund (from the dealer),” Liu, who is in her 30s, told the Richmond News via email from China.

While I am very new Jag owner (08 XKR), and plan to work my way up the brand a bit, I always imagined that something like an Aston would be the next logical progression. Interest in Aston's actually got me looking more seriously at Jags... but it was more of an affordability decision. I have a few Aston models on my wishlist. Is the old saying that an Aston is just a Jag in drag accurate? Would an Aston be your next best move? or am I missing something...

ps. Hoping to see the new DB11 this weekend at the Boston Auto Show...I'll try to get some pics if I do.

I am Taiwanese-American so I can say this with impunity. This Jessica Liu woman sounds like a typical spoiled only-child of the nouveau riche Chinese (whom I see everyday in their Maseratis and Bentleys). Plus the fact that the Chinese and Taiwanese are horrible drivers in general (this one excepted )

Did someone recommend GAP insurance at time of purchase?

I've been gunning for an Aston for some time, but the local dealer is $150 an hour and they were very rare to fix my Lotus the first time on each repair. Same guys will be working on the Aston for $20 more an hour... I want to have confidence in them, but their track record is not good. I've been searching other places (and closer to home) and may've found something I would feel comfortable working on such a car if I buy it.

Ha! I won't speak to the ethnicity, but I can say with impunity she is an idiot for under insuring her car. There is stupidness by her and the shop in that write-up. Rotors have to be replaced as a pair for balance, hooey.

I don't have a budget. I buy based on value. If I can get a $700,000 car for $250,000 I'll buy it!

In that case have you seen this listing? They are going for ~$200K US at the moment, so I believe $215K Can. is a bargain.

So would I. But, if it seems too good to be true ... there's a reason.

Brand new, absolutely gorgeous and never used, worth every penny of $700,000. But 15 or 20 years later, showing lots of wear and tear and in need of structural, mechanical and cosmetic repairs, probably not worth $250,000. Might have no choice but to trade for a newer model.

If you're married, pray that your wife doesn't read this! If she does, just tell her that what she understood was not what you meant ... when you give her that new diamond bracelet and explain that she's like fine wine that gets better with age.

Life is short. Enjoy the ride. And the XKR.

I'm not old enough to buy a bentley. Maybe when I pass 80 I'll consider it.

This isn't your Grampa's Bentley...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bentle...SR_.282011-.29

"The car has 0 to 100 kilometres per hour (0.0 to 62.1 mph) acceleration of 3.7 seconds, 0 to 160 kilometres per hour (0.0 to 99.4 mph) acceleration of 8.9 seconds, top speed of 329 kilometres per hour (204.4 mph), making it the fastest and the most powerful production Bentley ever. The Supersports is already known as the best handling Bentley. Bentley says the supersports can deliver 1.29 g forces on a 300-foot (91 m) skid pad."
"The first Bentley capable of running on both petrol (gasoline) and biofuel (E85 ethanol), its 6.0 litre W12 engine was rated 630 PS (463 kW; 621 bhp) at 6,000 rpm and 800 N·m (590 lbf·ft) at 1,700-5,600 rpm - using either fuel." (The ISR car has 631 BHP.)

How many other cars can deliver these types of numbers? Your Gramps would be proud.
