Default Is it worth it??

I'm moving to South Korea for 2 years and I was thinking of shipping my XK over. It will cost about $15K in shipping and duty to bring it over. My question is "could I drive it for a year of fun and sell it at a profit?" Any suggestions?

Korea would be a great place to drive an XK, though it is madness in Seoul between the tiny streets and the multiple accidents (more road deaths and injuries there than anywhere else in the first world, when we were there our kids wouldn't get into cabs after a few scares so we took the subway everywhere). But the countryside is beautiful, save that it gets very very cold (minus 17 Celsius when we were there in December) and the roads get pretty icy in places, maybe not friendly to the XK?

I saw quite a few high end cars in Incheon, a fairly lonely looking XF in Seoul, but for the most part I wouldn't personally be taking a good car over there because of their crazy driving habits.

I would not do this. How many skilled people over there could properly repair the aluminum body panels if you happen to get in a fender bender?

Allpoints well taken. I actually see quite a few Jaguars (XFs & XJs) in Seoul and have even seen an XK Coupe. I was at the Hyatt for the release party for the XE in August. It is sometimes hard to remember that not everywhere has weather like Northern California!

I'd sell the XK before you leave and lease a Hyundai Genesis or Equus while you're there. When you return to Oz, buy a CPO 5.0L XKR; they'll be more affordable in 2 years.

Guys,

Ironically enough I have a Hyundai Genisis G330 as my company car there. My though was could I make a quick profit on selling the XK in Korea. I've seen early 2000s XJ8s going for $20K in Korea that would be hard pressed to ger $8K here. If i had a buyer already arranged I might do it.

DaveC,

Sounds like a good plan, but... More research and due diligence into importing a car from the USA to S. Korea for resale is in order. I'm sure that you will have to navigate lots of legal hoops and pitfalls.

Simple math will tell you if it's worth exporting. I'd bring; why not? XK is a rare car, no matter the locale.
