Wrong HID headlight capsules?

Wrong HID headlight capsules?
I have noticed that the HIDs on my 2008 XKR are not exactly stellar. To be honest, the Cibie Z beams with standard 55/60 H4 bulbs on a previous car were as good if not better. The Jag lights look oddly grey/blue on the road, not white to me.
I have read here that the projectors used by Jaguar are not very good. Can anybody confirm/deny this? I know that the HIDs on my neighbour's Lexus RX300 look to have way more clout than mine.
Is it possible that the previous owner had a set of 6000k or 8000k capsules fitted and that is my issue? There is a lot of blue fringing at the cutoff when you shine the lights on a wall. Just looking at them with the car in the garage they look pretty white but staring at an HID projector is not something you can do for long to form a proper opinion. Maybe I need to park the car on the street and walk away a bit to see the real colour.
Any thoughts on this? If I pull a headlight unit, how are the capsules marked to determine colour temperature, or is do I have to refer a 15 digit number with some manufacturer's cheat sheet.
