There are 2 conductors in the wear sensor cables.

Are they designed as a closed circuit that is cut when the brake pads wear down?

Or are they an open circuit that is completed when when the brake pads wear down and touch the rotor?

I am currently replacing the rear pads on our 2010 XK convertible.

Yes it is a closed circuit, once cut will trigger the wear sensor.
I've used a paper clip before in the plug to temporarily eliminate
