I wouldn't count on seeing 30mpg regularly. Best I get on the highway is around 26. Around town, 15-17 is normal for me.
I would have to agree. I was surprised, that anyone ever even saw 30mpg.
Going to work I get better mileage, it's down hill and I'm got in a hurry usually (LOL). Going home! Well, there's a little more foot on the gas pedal.

Just skimmed through these posts, as I'm seriously considering buying a 2008 XK, with 109,000 miles. Just confirming some of the maintenance has been done, before I buy. So to hear you say that you get 30-31 MPG, may push me over the edge and pull the trigger. Currently driving a BMW 330i with a 6-speed manual. I agree, I don't like driving the mundane and want to enjoy the many hours I spend in the car each day. I do around 140 miles a day.
On specific routes I have gotten over 30MPG from cold start in the morning to end of day.
However, that cold start really drops your MPG as the engine mapping is different.
This means the longer distance you go without a cold start, the more MPG you will get.
I work from home now, I am at 19.6MPG. I no longer go through or into Charlotte NC much. I used to be 26MPG+ even in traffic, just from the distance factor of how much I drove each day balancing out the cold start losses.
MPG is highly variable based on route, traffic, and driver.
My 2005 XK was my daily driver for several years (purchased it in 2011 with 83K on it) until it was sideswiped and totaled. Drove it until it had 203K miles during that time, needed to do a lot of front end work at the end of her lifetime and replaced the tranny at 125K. Other than that, she was great. I now have a 2014 XK which is my new daily driver. It has 26K (had 16K when I purchased it) and as of this date, I have had no issues whatsoever. Hope that helps.
DD here as well. 2.5 mile commute (driveway to parking spot) which I usually stretch a bit, and some weeks I hit 14mpg! It is after all is said and done, just a car and meant to be driven.
Two and a half mile commute? Most of my coworkers have an hour and a half commute! Not me, but I'm 11 miles from the office. If I were that close I would walk or ride my bicycle. Still with a beautiful car like that I would like any excuse to drive it!
Yeah, short commutes kind of suck when you’ve got a nice car.
1.5 mile walk (20 minutes), or a 4 minute drive (slightly longer route, maybe 2 miles, and 3 traffic lights, two of which are right-turn-on-red, so tend to be quick).
And of course the wife always asks, ‘Why don’t you walk to work today?’.
Answer: I need that extra 16 minutes in the office.
These cars are meant to be driven. That is Rain or Shine, without any ill effects.
But not in the snow or when the weather is especially nasty. I have a beater for that.
absolutely i daily drive it, rain or shine. mixed streets and highway, 30-40 miles depending on choice of route, which i rotate all the time for the variety.
and then when i am at work, i'll find any excuse to go down the street to the grocery store at lunchtime, just to drive it some more.
i usually leave it in regular drive for a few minutes, then switch to sport w/dynamic mode on and use the paddles for the second half of the ride... we've settled on 14.6 mpg
My XK did not like sub freezing temps very much. The door latches wouldn't work when below freezing, I mean really below freezing. I had to carry a heat gun and extension cord just in case. Local Jag expert shop did everything in the book and never fixed it. Most probably never drove theirs in as cold temps as I did.

I noticed on mine that often there would be ice along the window that would prevent the window from lowering to open the door.

What were you going to be heating?
The latch would not move, so the door would just bounce off of the door frame and never close. I'd have to hold the door closed from the inside until the door latches were warm enough to move. That is also what I heated with the gun. No ice or anything like that and everything was super clean and treated current.
My XKR is my daily driver.

I've driven it back and forth across the USA three times.
You have a decision: garage it, weekend it, have it car-show quality, or.... drive it every day.
I clearly do the second. I don't think you can do both.
