Default xkr 5.0 engine difference between f-type r and xkr-s

Debating between an xkr and 650i but wanted a car at least as fast as what i have now. I see that the pulley+tune xkr's dyno alot less than pulley+tune f-type rs and the xkr-s. Whats the reason why? Really Hoping to have at least a mid 11sec car.

2016 F-type R AWD is 11.6, 2016 BMW 650 is 12.5.

Im looking at 2010's xkr's and 2013 650's. I just want to know why the f-type r's and xkr-s dyno alot higher with a tune and pulley, than a regular xkr also with a tune and pulley.

I would think that it depends on the type of tune and pulley installed. Perhaps one of the Sponsor tuners can chime in.

The F Type R and XKR-S have the 404KW version of the 5.0SC instead of the 380KW version in the XKR. I think that the original F Type V8 'vert (then called the "S") had the 380KW version and then when the V8 vert changed to be called "R" it got the higher tuned engine.

Unfortunately I dont know exactly what the difference is between the 375KW and the 404KW versions, save that they have a different ECU and exhaust - the 404KW has the x-pipe and a few other changes.

Possibly the easiest way to find the difference is to see what was changed betrween the XKR and the XKR-S, though the articles I looked at just suggested a "higher tune".

The f type is always going to be a faster vehicle as it has 8 forward gears vs 6 forward gears for the xkr.

The 8sp will always be within the optimal power band but having said all of that the xkrs is capable of low 12s out of the box.

As far as tuning, these engines are identical just different software/mapping from the factory .

Traction is the major deciding factor...I've gone 12.6 in my modded '10 XKR (on 22s)...planning someday to get 20s put on with some more sidewall to see if that can get me some better times

amgeater,
The XKR is larger and weighs more than the F-type, and in stock form at 510hp, is down 40 hp. Dyno or not, this along with the 4wd of the F-type R (better launch and traction), would explain the differences in 0-60 and 1/4 miles times. Additionally, the f-type's exhaust is probably improved in comparison to that of the XKR. However, with an inexpensive pulley/tune, you can improve the XKR's performance significantly. But even in stock form, it will outperform the 650i, maybe not the 650M, but sure close.

That's very decent mph dare I say it easily into the 11s - (l'm gathering you've got exhaust mods , tune and prehaps upgraded pulley)

Obviously it's them nasty 22'' affecting your 60ft in turn destroying your e.t

pulley, tune, exhaust, intake mods. Car dynoed 528 rwhp and 535 rwtq....thought about going 19s on the back just for strip duty but ive decided to go back to 20s for all around, comfort, traction, and looks....but the 22s just look so good on there!

Impressive so you're getting about 650 HP at the crank. Sounds like a super tune to me. Enjoy.

Would love to see how it performs with the 20s in place I have no doubt it's good for a 11s pass.
