x pipe will "alter" the sound of your car and I am told has a native quieting effect if that's what you want... 200 cell cat or decats will keep the same sound, but give more to it.
The exhaust is from the cat back so you get the mid pipe and rear box .that makes exceptional value.
If one was looking to retain their mid pipe for some reason yes you're correct it wouldn't be straight swap out
What I was trying to say, is that if you look at the picture you posted, the pipes from the x-pipe to the muffler box are not mirror images of each other. The left pipe has a large bend in it, I think to get around the ediff. Your 4.2 pipes are much straighter, and close to mirror images of each other.
Going off a few pics 4.2 vs 5.0 it appears the hangers on the actual mid pipe section would have to be relocated so an exhaust designed for a 5.0 could fit the 4.2 mounting brackets , apart from that I can't see any further issues .

Maybe these images will help show what I was describing for the difference in the exhaust piping for the 4.2 and 5.0 cars.
This is a back box from a 4.2L, note how close and mirror image the pipes are at the top of the photo.
This is a back box from a 5.0L, note how different the pipes are at the top of the photo.
Kj I understand what your saying however the top gear exhaust comes with a new rear box and mid pipe so whether there is a bend in the muffler it won't make a difference

Ok, fair enough. If you decide to go with that system, let us know if it only requires changing a couple of hangers to get a system designed for a 5.0L to fit a 4.2L car.
Or, maybe they also have an equivalent 4.2L system?
I wonder if that inlet pipe kick isn't to clear something for the E diff?
I also think it's a pity that they don't have some video clips and decibel readings for their exhaust vs. stock. Throwing a lot of money after a couple crappy pictures...
Little bit different scenario, as he had a 5.0L back box adapted to fit the rest of a 4.2L exhaust (took some re-piping to get them to connect).
The question is: can you take a complete 5.0L designed system and put it on a 4.2L car?
My guess is not without some re-piping.
