Whats the little amber/orange light near the hood switch telling me?

 

If by 'hood switch' you mean the switch that controls operation of the roof, that little light is simply 'mood lighting'. It gives the center console a nice soft glow at night. And it also helps locate the garage opener switches, so you don't accidentally open/close the top when you're actually trying to open your garage.
