Default XKR Front grill color? *Pics Included

Evening all,

Firstly I would like to say what a great forum this is! I've finally joined as my latest edition arrived just last week.

I have a 2007 XK seen here:-

As you can it has the XK60 kit on which I don't care for to be honest so its being removed to make way for the 'speed pack' kit. I also have a full quad custom exhaust on the way and if the Mina 2013 XKRS wing is reasonable money I'll have that too.

I was just wondering ... my new front bumper goes into the paint shop tomorrow and I'm not sure what color to have the front grills / mesh painted? My car is liquid Silver so either black, silver /chrome or graphite are my options.

What do you think?

Here is a picture of my new bumper:-

I like the exhaust tail pieces on your car. I think they look more OEM than the quad tail pipes on my 2011 XKR 175.

I'm also considering painting my front upper and lower grilles black with plasti dip. To match the rest of the chrome trim and side vents I was going to purchase the chrome trim around the 2013 upper grille but it is 1" to long and 1/2" to wide in the center. I could probably get it to fit by cutting the top and bottom center and removing some material to fit. However, the part is $190. I was also considering using chrome moulding around the upper grille to simulate the look. I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet.

Where did you get your front bumper? Just wonder what you paid for it too? I'd like to know what used parts go for.

That's a good idea but it does sound like a lot of work though.

These are the two picture that have got me thinking:-

In my opinion both the above look great with the black grills however I'm not a fan on black wheels which I think you may have to fit it make it all work?

Really not sure.
I found the bumper at a breakers yard complete with parking sensors, under tray, grills and lower splitter for £380 -around $580- which I thought was reasonable.

I like the contrast of black on silver.

The silver-silver looks like a cheap paint job and silver-chrome doesn't flatter the grill design.

I like the black grille even-though you are not going to use black wheels which I don't care for either. If you are going to go the other direction, I would use the chrome grille rather than the silver paint that matches the car. The rear on your XK is great. That valance painted silver with the exhausts going through it really cleans it up. Nice car!

That's a great price. Good find. The complete splitter, center and 2 ends, would cost at least that new.

After looking at the pictures I like the black personally. Just my option. I think it would make your car look more modern. The reason I'm considering changing my grille to black is to give it a more updated look. However, in my case I have a 175 which is rare and may be best left as is. Consequently, this is the reason I was going to use plasti dip, it is reversible.

I agree with the other comments. The back of your car looks better and more finished than the new ones rolling out today. Reminds me a bit of a Maserati.

Which ever way you go your car is look sharp. When you are done post some pictures. I'd love to see the completed job. Taking pride and care of our car's is a good part of the enjoyment of owning such fine machines as we are so lucky to have.

Nice car! (And welcome!)

I'm obviously a fan of the black grill, but still prefer the OEM opening below.

You mentioned you are putting the "Speed Pack" components on your car...

Is this an OEM Jaguar speed pack? Where did you get the parts? Thanks

Just a quick update.

I've had the bumper painted and fitted. I think it works? however the chrome side vents may need to go.

What do you think?

On a separate issue the painters have got the color match wrong *sigh

I'm glad you think it looks good. I'm probably going to have to get the bumper repainted due to the poor color match though :/

I've actually just sold my Range Rover. It was a 2010 Range Rover Sport Autobiography with custom 22" wheels & full color coding. I really liked it but with the new 2013/14 Range Rovers now being launched I figured it would looked very dated very soon!

Do you like the Sport or the "classic" body style? Both have an HSE; I don't know the proper name for the bigger one...and I own one!

Looks good! Your right, the chrome vent has to go... Just wrap it or plastidip.

The paint mismatch stands out in the images, can feel your pain there...
