XKRS brakes
Hello gentlemen,
I was rotating the tires on our 2009 Lincoln Navigator and the brakes caught my attention. I think they are the same brakes (calipers, pads) that is on the XKRS.
I have snapped some pictures. I know Jaguars still have lot of Ford parts integrated into them.
What are your thoughts?
I couldn't find a good picture of the XKRS brakes, but you guys with the car would probably know.

Thanks MaximA!
I was really taken by a surprise as the whole configuration is very similar. They are sliding/floating calipers. The pad placement is exactly the same and on the back of the caliper has the little plastic covers like the Jaguars do.
We have had lot of trucks in our household and the Navigator has the best brakes out of all of them. It stops really well.
The collaboration between the two companies is very significant it seems.

I doubt the brakes on the XKR/XKRS are Brembos. I don't believe Brembo makes a sliding caliper only fixed. I could be wrong as I don't follow there OEM products.
Late model Jags with updated brakes i.e. the 2008-2009 optioned Portfolios(maybe 07, 10) have Alcons as an option and the GT is running 6 pot Alcons as well.

They dropped the Alcons on the 5.0 models; wasn't even an option. I've done some digging, but I can't find out for sure who the OEM is - I'm starting to suspect it's Teves (ATE, now owned by Continental).
However, the GT has Brembo/SGL units, badged as Jaguar:
BSCCB - Jaguar XKR-S GT

I know they dropped them on the 5.0s but I installed them on mine as the stock brakes are toast due to track days and increased power. Not sure why they dropped them, they are MUCH better brakes then whats stock now.
Wish I could get the GT brakes, but I'm not paying 30k for front brakes.
Wasn't sure about the GT brakes so thanks for clearing that up.

What speeds were you braking from? Mine were fine in the 120MPH range but repeated stops from 150ish to 30 toasted them, even with EBC Yellow stuff pads. There was mild fade and shutter near the end of the session. I also noticed it again during the the last R Academy where we had two turns under hard braking from 130. I also stayed out of the ABS as much as possible as its really hard on the brakes.
When I removed the pads the wear as also very uneven with a lot of pressure in the center and not much around the outer 1/2 inch of the edges.
So I went for an upgrade

No, 'Ring speeds don't get that high - well, I'd probably hit 170+ on the main straight if it was open, but for touristenfahrten they make you stop and swipe your card instead. Apart from that, there aren't a lot of straight bits. I might have touched 150 at a couple of points (wasn't looking at the speedo), but not with hard braking at the end. So, different situation.
Nice upgrade - if I was doing regular track work, it would be worth considering.

The last Jaguar with Brembos was the 05 STR. Then in 06 they switched to regular Jaguar brakes, which I have heard were Brembos.
The new Range Rover has Brembos as well as they advertise it on Land Rover's website. I will see if I can get a picture of it to see if it's floating caliper or not.
Looks like it's fixed.

When Jaguar dropped the Brembos on the STR they used a Teves system from 2006-2008. Lost the fixed caliper and went to a very standard slider pin design.
We think it was a cost cutting move but the braking seems to perform about the same so maybe the Brembos are better on the track but you don't push it that hard on the street so you don't notice the difference?

The x100 XKR had the 4 pot Brembos through the end of the run in 2006.
They stop plenty well enough but don't have a great deal of feel. That probably has more to do with the system design and the assit than it does the calipers though.
One of the nicest things about them is that you can pull two pins and out come the pads through the back, without having to unbolt anything. Well ok, you have to unbolt the wheel...

Just looked around the net and Brembo does make some sliding OEM calipers. Learned something new today.
