Rear view mirror XK140

I wanted to replace my mirror Found that the screws attaching it to the dashboard were bolts , and the nuts dropped into a dark place!
any ideas on how to gain access ?
maybe through the hole for the indicators?

There should be a bracket with screw thread on to of the switch where the mirror is attached.
I replaced mine last month, and it just screwed in.
