Default renewing exhaust manifold

Picking up the Jag from it previous owner next week. But I know that the engine compartment needs a good detailing and going over. One thing I want to do is refresh the exhaust manifold. The coating is flaking off.

Does anyone have a suggestion about touching up the manifold to make it more presentable? Eastwood has a high temp, gloss black ceramic paint that might work. Considering trying that.

Or is there someone or company who will put on a new ceramic coating?

Here is a pic on how it looks today.

TX John

First off you have to get the old vitreous enamel off before refinishing. This Eastwood stuff might work, and will be cheaper than reapplying vitreous enamel even if you can find a company that does this sort of thing.

The enamel is the same stuff as used on cooker tops and grill pans. The original Jaguar finish never lasted very long due to the heat where the hot exhaust gases impinge directly on the manifold opposite the exhaust ports, as you can see from your pic.

I now have the car home after a 1,200 mile road trip in two days.

I have been doing some research and a company called Jet Hot seems to offer what I am looking for. I will contact them to see how much they want to do it. A vendor in the UK offers new exhaust headers for about $500 shipped.

Here is a link to the company. Jet-Hot... The Original | Jet-Hot

Jet Hot Coating will stay on the manifolds-might not look the same as original-but it will probably look better than what you have. At one time several of the vintage vendors offered a service to redo the manifolds-with NO warranty. The old enamel is very soft. I have removed it with medium abrasive in my glass bead cabinet. The problem with the enamel is that when it is hot, it will not tolerate a shock cooling with rain, car washing, etc.....like throwing water on a hot stove. Good luck, Andy

I think I would go for the Jet-Hot. If it used ceramic materials it should take the heat. It may not look so shiny though, but I would see how it goes.
