Replica XK150 over heating
Hi people, I am a newbie owner with an XK150 Replica built in 1983 using XJ parts and XJ 6 engine.
I am looking for further advice on an over heating issue, we have serviced and flushed radiatior, added a larger reservoir to no avail.
I should mention that I am in Australia and it was 38 degrees today and the overnight low last night was 27 degrees C but the car rarely gets driven in this temperature, normally through cooler months (mid teens to low 20's) as rare weekend excursion.
Temp always creeps up to the last quarter of the dial before I loose the game of bluff and shut it off. There never seems to be any point where it is settles down.
The car is mechanically sound from all reports and I would love to tag long to a few car shows and events but I am scared to go more than 5 miles in it.
After any advice on a cause or a mod to sort it out. Perhaps even sound mechanical advice in Perth WA in the off chance there is someone local.
Thanks in advance.
JB

Did you service the rest of cooling system. Change thermostat? Weak hoses? Do you have a laser thermometer ( $59 ) to check various areas of engine and tranny for hot spots. Brake drag? Bearings ( not engine ) greased properly? Fan belt adjusted properly? Might need electric fan assist if all criteria are met. Last could be timing and tune. With the grades of fuel changing constantly, might need timing adjustment. Usually XJ6s are long term non heaters. When they act up it is usually something simple in maintenance.
