Default xk120 valve noise

driving on highway at around 60 when suddenly get clicking noise from head loud enough that I immediately drove 50 miles home and parked car. Restarted from cold, no noise at first then same sound after warmed up. Compression test revealed within 10% of 140psi all cylinders. Noise coming from intake side so checked all intake valves for recommended .004 clearance had one at .003 and one at .005 other 4 were good. Car has 8 to 1 pistons and a "C" type head otherwise stock.

Any suggestion as to source of noise. Broken valve spring? or?????

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you-------------tom v.

Tom I would look for a spring but I would also pull the cover and look for a cam bucket rising up and hitting the cam.
