Cool One More Small Improvement

This has bugged me for a while, and when I was doing my spring cleaning a few weeks back, I remembered that my car either never had, or had lost it's strut tower caps:

A search of this forum led me to Jagbits, which didn't have the part listed on their website. I mailed them with the part number (NJA3975AB) and was told that I actually needed NJA3975BB, which is apparently no longer made. After a little more research I found the NJA3975BB has a cutout for the active suspention and NJA3975AB should fit just fine, despite being listed for 1998-199 up to VIN 038358 w/o active damping. I bit the bullet and ordered the overpriced ($10/each for a plastic cap?!) Jaguar part for each side. Voilą, it fits perfectly, and one more thing in my slightly OCD world is even better:

If anyone needs these, here is a direct link to order from Jagbits: http://www.jagbits.com/mm5/merchant....975ab&x=21&y=9

Any reason why they wouldn't fit 2000-2006?

I can't think of any. It fits my 2000 just fine. If your car has the active suspension, you would need the set with the cutouts, which is apparently difficult to find (at least JagBits didn't have it)

Thanks, I didn't even realize that those were supposed to be on the car. I think that site also sells a windshield wiper cap that's missing from my car.

Well it never bugged me until you mentioned it! Can't really say I'd noticed but now I just have to fix it!
All the caps are missing on my 2005. It's had both dampers replaced under warranty so that's an error by the dealer

The Parts Manual lists two options depending on whether adaptive damping is fitted or not.

NJD3975AB : Non Adaptive
NJD3975BB : Adaptive Control

My 2001 had a full set of caps on the strut and fixings:

The small strut tower cap here looks exactly like the one illustrated in the Parts Manual:

XK8 - Front Damper Cover .pdf

However, the one you've sourced as NJA3975AB covering the entire strut top looks much neater. So thats two of those and six spring mounting caps needed.

Didn't someone say they found a nearly exact match for the wiper posts at Lowe's? They reported that they were only a couple of bucks and fit perfectly.

Found them at Ace Hardware. $2 for 3. I can't remember the size.

Perhaps that type cover that Keith has found will help protect the bushing material to some degree and keep it from crumbling, cracking, etc.

Keith, do they pop off easily for periodoic inspections?

They pop off, but I don't know how easily. There is a little spot for a screw driver to pry on which lines up with one of the three tabs.

I must get round to fitting these, too. My car came without any covers at all. I assume the cut-out you refer to is for the length of electric wire on the active setups?

There is also a cover you can order for the ABS lines. It cleans that area up a bit.

those big caps, I was told, was only made for the initial years, then changed...when I went looking for some for my 2003 and ordered them, I got the little nipple covers instead. I wanted the big ones, so thanks for the link Keith!

They quit putting them on I believe in 2004, so the 04, 05, and 06"s didn't have them. I think Keith was right they may be a item that may be discontinued for the adaptive control feature. I bought extras from some yards to have in case mine got lost. I beleive the ABS cover was only on the earlier cars in the 90's

I have quite a few of the strut covers about, I chuck them in a box each time I fit the polished aluminium ones I make, they did stop fitting them from about 04 and on as has been said, the ABS pump cover stopped in 2000, you need an additional bracket fitted to the pump to hold it in place, you can still buy them

I prefer these strut caps

I've seen a few of those stainless steel ones and polished aluminum ones, but they are a little rich for my blood.
