Planning to see how the xk8 does around some cones in oct and really don't want to use the crappy mich all seasons that are on it. Was thinking on putting my nearly dead Kumho LEs from my r on. Anybody running a 255/40 18 on an 18x9 up front? Any rubbing issues?

 

I've got 255/45R18s on 9 inch rims at all four corners, no rubbing issues.

Love these cars, but I wouldn't expect too much joy at the autocross. Too big, too heavy.

I spent years autoxing Subaru XT6s and SVX so the xk8 should be an improvement in that it shouldn't oversteer like a buick century! Not expecting amazing reslts but my body isn't healed enough from a motorcycle vs drunk cager incident last December to drive the tvr as it requires a bit more effort on the shoulder to turn. Yours is lowered too right? I have a good inch lower in the rear and 1.5" lower up front.

 

Heavy, no limited slip. Was over 7 seconds slower in an XK8 than my usual autocross car on a 40 second course. Might try again with my Coupe though, seems tighter than than the convertible.

 

I've done a fair amount of autocrossing through the last few decades.

You should have fun if you don't pay attention to the timing results. I don't think the car is too big, but it is very heavy for autocrossing with its ultra-quick turns L and R. I wouldn't worry about tires till you've run it a few times to see if u want to spend the $$ on different tires.

Only reason I'm changing them is I have a set of Max Performance summer tires that are on their last leg (probably no longer legal in fact) and I'd rather waste them then the crappy all season michelin's the XK8 came with which should get me thru the winter. I know if I autoxed them they would be totally useless afterwards.

 

Well today was the autox. Car did fairly well considering, it poured during the morning and a heavy mist in the afternoon, it was my first time autoxing a rwd car and I was using tires not suited to the wet. There is potential for the car to do a bit better. Fun to take around and fairly predictable and composed. Here's the results!
