Kind of a broad open-ended question here without much information. If you are a "collector" and both cars were similar condition with similar mileage, I could see going for the Silverstone if it was not too much more than the 2002. If you are getting the car to drive then I would consider miles on the odometer and price more than the Silverstone designation and I certainly would not pay a large premium just because it was a Silverstone.

Well i have always wanted a XKR. I would not drive it all the time. Just a weekend car. The reason I am asking is i love almost everything about the 100's but i love the wheels off the silverstone edition(Detroit wheels). But the real purpose of asking the question is to get ideas of pro's and con's of each car and which one you would purchase over the other and why. Thanks for the reply back!

Okay. If about the same mileage and about the same price then go for the Silverstone. If the Silverstone has significantly more mileage and significantly greater price, I would go for the 2001.

If both cars are about equal in mileage and price, the obvious "pros" with the Silverstone are the accouterments that came along with the model and the prestige of owning a limited edition model. On the other hand if the 2002 was a better deal in terms of price and mileage, you could always get the Detroits or some other wheels later.

If it is the XKR-100 (special edition), then it has many of the extras not found on the standard models. Here's a link that talks about the differences (not many) between the two models and the standard issue XKs.

XK8 Lovers - Models

Both are limited runs of less than 500 worldwide. It is really going to come down to your preference.

is there really much of a difference between the 2 cars? im convinced these special models are copies of each other.

they all feature "lower, stiffer, sportier tuned suspension" with upgraded rims and wheels....maybe an upgraded ECU..........but other than that and a maybe a different colored interior and shift knob.......they're more or less duplicates of each other with the same name

Exactly--and I am not aware of any upgrade ECU on any models.

Well I know that the XKR100 had recaro seats, brembo breaks, momo shift knob and steering wheel. Upgraded rims, stiffer suspension and the XKR100 coupe, only 30 of them were produced for North America.

Yes, HID Xenon go together. But on the other side Xenon halogen bulbs are just a marketing scam. So my real question is, are the early 00's XK's halogen or HID/Xenon headlamps.

Was HID an option then? Since i have only seen a few X100 XK's with halogen headlamps. A majority have HID's

08-18-2000 was the first steel lined AJ V-8 was the production date for the engine not the car. My cars build date was August 16th 2000 the engine build date was July 19, 2000 28 days pasted before the car was assembled.
There was problems with the sulfated fuels in the 90's, but if you have a good running Nikisil engine now there shouldn't be any worry, they're probably more desirable than the steel lined. Many manufacturers still use Nikisil today. Silverstones were built through out the 2000 production run There are no set Vin numbers they were run down the assembly line with all other XK8's and R's. The later Silverstones were steel lined but the majority was Nikisil. Basically the Silverstone and the 2002 x-100 are the same car except for the Recaros seats, wheels, and color combinations. There was X-100 250 convertibles and 250 coupes produce. 232 Silverstone in the U.S. of which only 30 were coupes.

So all the improvements made to the silver stone went into the 2002 x100? So what does the XKR100 have that the normal 2002 XKR have. Since they say that the XKR100 has a handling pack, recaro seats brembo brakes. Also i thought the Silver Stone didn't have recaro seats..if i remember correctly.

The 2002 X-100 has the Recaro Seats, Montreal wheels, and the R performance package which are all options on a standard XKR. I believe these are the only two models that have the birds eye maple dash. The seats in the Silverstone are
Jaguars with Connolly leather. The last year they supplied hides for Jaguar before going out of business. The seats are comfortable, but you slide around to much in aggressive driving, compared to the Recaros.

Did the Silverstone use CATS? Since i see the 100's have it but cant find any info about whether or not the Silverstone has it.

I believe all XKR's had the CATS Suspension as standard equipment since introduction in 1999, I know I've read reports of the 2000's in the U.S. market having them as standard.
Here's a couple of web sites that should answer all your questions

The Recaros definitely hold you in place well and they are fairly stiff. Both the Silverstone and the XKR 100 would be a great car. What color do you like best, silver or anthracite...?
You will definitely enjoy either one.
