It's beautiful from the pics. I asked the seller if he had any maintenance records. He said he drove it all last summer and everything was fine, and he replaced the rear brakes for $1100. I pointed out that a Jaguar with 177,000 miles in Michigan for 9 years was a very high risk. Like I said, it looks great...but without records to show what has been replaced it could be a nightmare. KBB with no issues is $12K= PP to $15K+ retail (KBB assumes "excellent" condition at retail). Yeah, like that makes it automatically perfect.

Agreed. Galactic miles and grey on grey is not the best combo IMHO.

Was that comment because of the very high mileage alone or do some States apply stricter rules to older vehicles?

Michigan has a road composition of snow, salt, sand and gravel in heavy quantities for our winters. It destroys cars. The only way to avoid it is to put the cars away before first salt and wait several weeks after the snow is gone for all the salt residue to be washed away by rain. Otherwise we get rust that'd make English constant dampness and rain related rust look like nothing.

My old DD BMW (now getting ready to sell) just had the rear struts blow out yesterday. Not, the hydraulics, the bottom of where the spring is retained on the strut fell off on both sides. The car went over a speed bump and then fairly thick metal sheared off where welded to the shock body on both sides. Now I'm halfway done putting new rear struts on my e38 (did passenger rear strut and doing the other side tonight). Since last summer, the paint went on the struts and the body of the strut rusted enough to destroy the welds(I did rear brakes then and everything looked good).

The Northern U.S. States are known as the "Salt Belt" due to the use of Road Salt in Snowy Conditions. Promotes Rust and corrosion on Car Bodies and Undercarriage.

Many Specialty Car Owners store their "Good Car" in the Winter and drive a more Mundane vehicle in the Salty Conditions.

With the High Miles on the Subject Car, it indicates that it may have been driven in the Winter.

Having lived in and owned numerous Jaguars in IL I wouldnt touch this with a 10 foot pole. As much as it looks almost perfect the truth is at 177K it HAD to be driven in crappy conditions at some point and knowing what I know there has to be rust lurking somewhere on the baby. Maybe you wont see anything now but who knows then something, anything, will rust through... than you have a Jaguar parts car. I know a little harsh but Ive seen many things on Jags rust away in IL.

Thanks Paul and 80sRule for the explanation about Michigan and the "Salt Belt".

I thought the UK was alone in spreading salt all over the roads at the first threat of frost. Back in the early 70's, my XJ6 Series I's used to start dissolving from the sills up in three years.

I agree wholeheartedly with John, Paul and 80's Except for this winter ( weathers been in the 70's and 80's this year when we were shoveling snow this time last year) my cars never leave the garage the amount of salt they use turns most in a few years to scrap. Although our 2001 Ford Explorer has lasted about 10 years without signs of rust, it's starting to show up now. I believe they are doing a better job on corrosion than years ago. But I still would steer clear just because of the mileage and home state.

I'm curious how my A8 is going to hold up. It's aluminum and it appears that D2 (95-02) A8s have held up extremely well (also aluminum). Nothing of any corrosion anywhere and it's got 8 Michigan winters and 100k miles of primarily winter driving.

Wow, that car is in my town. Not a very big town either, I am suprised that I have never seen it around.

Actually the pictures on the driveway looks somewhat like a familair area, but the other pictures in front of the recital hall... I have no idea where that is.

You should go check it out. I'm really curious about the underside and typical corrosion points. Without a repaint (unless it was driven only in summer, and only on long trips) I can't see how it survived all those miles.

I actually like the color for somewhat different reasons than most. When I take my trips up north on the open Nevada highways I like to cruise pretty fast. That dark gray blends right in with the road and is very hard for the NHP to spot from very far off. I used to cruise at WELL over 100 in my all black ZR-1, but that was mostly at night. The trick is knowing where you need to use headlights to keep oncoming traffic from pulling out to pass without seeing you.

I might take a look out of curiousity. But my guess, aside from the paint, is by looking at the wheels, and seats, and center console armrest is that it's a typo. Maybe it's 17,700 miles? In every way it looks much better than my car, which has quite a lot fewer miles than are listed there.

It's a dealer too, so maybe it's from out of state?

That looks to be a very nice car. Paintwork seems perfect, have a look at the photo taken from the rear, the area behind the wheel shows no stone chips at all. Driver's seat is unmarked, my car has half that mileage, and seat is scuffed. Interior seems to be unmarked. If you live close enough to check it out, would definitely be worth it. Make sure you get both keys and fobs.
good luck
Pete

Nice looking car, pulled the auto history up on the ebay site and the mileage looks correct. Looks like 5 different owners and was at auction 3 different times. Price? I would love to see his reserve. Purchased my 2000 xk8 with 62,000 on the clock for $10,000. By the looks of it of it I would say its a snow bird. Whats a snow bird - a Yankee going south for the winter! Ha Let us know what you find out. Jim

Could well be, I live on the edge of Sun City in AZ, the population balloons after Thanksgiving until Easter.
The car may have spent it's days in the sun with long trips back and forward.

Besides, as of this reply it's sitting at $7,100.00 w/Reserve Not Met. My guess is that reserve is full book based on the amount of overkill in trivia. An '03 XKR for $7k would be a great deal, but at $12-15k not so much, unless the mileage statement was mislabelled and the miles were actually 17,700.

Well, it's baaaaaaaack. It makes me sick that it looks so good, buuuut it cannot be anything but a money pit unless the p.o's replaced every wear-out item in it. Did anyone ever go look at it?

I never went and looked, At the time of the last auction I was working such long hours I would have had to take a day off to see it.
