My mechanic ordered an intake hose for my vehicle and reports that it's not the correct item. The supplier claims there is no alternative.

You can download the SNG Barratt for the XK8 on their website. For your VIN number there is only one available (4.2 Litre non supercharged C2N1041) but for the various VINS there are 4 different models of the part available. They just won't fit your vehicle. So in total there are 5 different air intakes for the XK8 4.2 L non supercharged.
They provided the wrong part for your VIN
