Make sure all the electronics work...especially that steering column

Congratulations! You may want to ask several questions: Who did the engine work? Were they trained to work on Jags? Why does the current owner want to sell the car? Is there a good place close to you that can supply the maintenance on the car should you decide not to do it yourself? How long do you plan to keep the car? I know that sometimes a Carfax may not disclose everything about a car but the price is cheap for some additional piece of mind.

I found my 97 XK8 in the Auto Trader 10 years ago and flew to Miami from North Carolina to get the car. It was checked over by a third party and came up with clean bill of health. I feel I paid top dollar for the car but I don’t plan on selling it any time soon. You have lots of resources for average car prices available to you, Kelly Blue Book www.kbb.com and Edmunds www.edmunds.com . I feel that the most important thing is if your are pleased with your purchase.

Sounds like me. I live in VA. and the car is in FL. I don't drive that much. Maybe 5000 miles a year. But I like to change cars b/4 they get 100,000 miles on them. I'm getting as much info as I can sent to me. I'll keep everything posted. I've already told the guy I'm not coming unless everything checks out!!!!!

Well the MAJOR issues with this model seem to have been addressed. Thats nice! There are a many other ticky tacky issues that could come up but to be honest if you are going to drive one of these you must be prepared to deal with stuff. If you don't have spare cash to fun the fixes don't buy it. Search 97 Xk8 threads on here, that will give you a flavor of things that can be issues. But remember the issues you see here are FEW compared to the cars on the road that don't have issues.

Some times there are treasures out there. Because my '00 XK8 was a 'Select Edition' 100k mile warranty car I was able to obtain all the maintenance / repair records. The PO had been through $11k in warranty repairs in the previous 18 months and at 106k miles I had a 'new' car.

Make sure all the little electrical things work. The owners manual is a good checklist and is available at the top of this forum. Just go through and test each as the book explains their operation. There are no 'little' repairs on the Jaguar. Remember that tires are close to $1000 on this car and get 20k miles at best.

There is also a pretty complete list of things to consider in the FAQ's at the top of this forum but you appear to have done some research.

It's worth what you think it is worth after researching the referenced sites.

Painted 7 spoke impellers. Had chrome on the '00 and wish I had kept them rather than sending them to the bone yard.

Out of gas. Pic tomorrow.

You might want to nose around the passenger side of the engine near the fire wall to see if it has a reman engine tag. That would let you know if you have a steel lined block or a nikasil coated block.

What color is it?

My 99 coupe has had the following work on since owning. Bought it with 29K, 72K now.
Reman Engine, water pump, rad hoses, t-stat, ECU, brakes&rotors, tires(2sets), leather in front, coil pacs, plugs, high heat sensor in tranny, new battery cables, battery, secondary ground wires on rear tail lights, exhaust, starter reman., front control arm bushings, rear view mirror, high brake light,

Red rules!

I really prefer the open grill look with the single bar across it rather than the 05 solid grill. What model/year is your red xk? I know that's back dating mine but that is the look I want.

The big thing I would investigate is the new transmission. These units are hard to rebuild and it is not always successful, check it out and be sure it's a good one. The car may be for sale due to problems with the rebuilt tranny. Sorry, just naturally suspicious.
