Default 1998 XK8 Remote key locking alarm

When I depress the locking button on my key FOB I get a very low sound like a sick cricket. What is the unit that makes the sound?

pressing that button directs the car to arm the alarm and lock the doors. You should hear 1 chirp = Armed.

If by chance a door or the hood is not properly latched (maybe even if the trunk is open I forget), the car will play a squawk type of noise, maybe that's what you hear? This is telling you the car is not properly secured.

Hope this is what you hear becuase it is an easy fix.

John

Thanks for the reply. I am looking for a way to increase the volume of the "Chirp". It is very difficult to hear.

The unit is called a "sounder" and is located behind the wheel arch cover on the right front wheel. You can do a search for sounder and find quite a few threads about repairing the sounder or just removing it. You can't adjust it but it can be overhauled and cleaned.
