Default 2001 Jaguar XK8 Won't Start. Chains broken?

Another non-starter. This one sounds like nothing I have heard thus far.

I have run through some standard tests and am going to test the battery one more time. Motor turns but rebounds immediately like something is stuck. Will not turn over completely. Previous owner said he drove it to the gym and when he got back in, it would not turn over. He said it was a starter but I am seriously doubting it now. To me, it seems like the chains have possibly broken causing it to not be able to spin.

I will post more videos as I get it going.

Any advice is appreciated. If anyone has ever heard/seen a startup act like this, please let me know.

I was about to do that on my lunch break but was worried about damaging internals. I’ll just be gentle with it and not force anything.

Proceed carefully and don't use the starter anymore. It's not going to suddenly turn over and spin freely. I might take the cam covers off and have a look, take your time. TM

Thats a good idea. I’ll pull the covers this weekend and take a look to see if everything is still in good shape.

thanks for the advice!

I'd pull the plugs and retry starter. It could have a slug of water in a cylinder from head gasket leak, or whatever. You'll be pulling coils anyway to remove the valve covers.
