Default 2001 Jaguar XKR Silverstone Coupe suspension

Hi All,

Does the Silverstone coupe have different suspension parts vs the normal adaptive r-performance coupes?

From my understanding is the car rides 10mm lower than the stock XKR's. Does this mean the Silverstone came with different springs? I don't notice a difference in part numbers for the springs or shock absorbers.

Do these cars have a different alignment setting in the computer?

Thanks for your help.

I believe they are the same, as far as I know the main difference other than badging is the interior the Silverstone was different than the XKR in that respect, otherwise should be the same.

"R features" cars which l believe would include the silverstone have different part number for springs than other adaptive suspension cars. What paint colour swipes are on springs (should be pink/purple).
The R features equipped cars sit 10-15mm lower.
edit.
The handling performance pack fitted to silverstones and some other cars included different springs, shocks, adaptive damping module, steering module and reduced diameter rear bar.

If I am understanding you correctly. To get the ruspension set up correctly/renewed. I will need R performance adaptive shocks (I belive Bilstein was OEM) and the sport springs (which allow the car to ride 10mm lower than normal XKR’s). The CAT’s suspension module will remain constant/same calibration.

The steering module and sway bars etc, not affected with renewing the suspension.

Thanks!!

Reading this makes me wonder why i dont see many posts about folks chassing after the Silverstone springs mentioned above.

guess I always default to: higher performance is better.

OTOH, I once started a discussion about CATS and tried to get a handle on what I'm missi g with the normal suspension. To my surprise the net net of the feedback was, it really doesn't make a very big difference, especially considering the cost of replacement shocks.

we get questions about, and we recommend renewing the springs, all the time. Would someone like me, who drives his GT like its a sports car (don't laugh, I am just making the best of what I've got), see much of a difference with these springs?

might be hard to answer, but maybe someone knows. I don't think we analized the return rate of these Silverstone springs , we just noted the size I'd 10mm less. IOW, are they the same springs, just shorter?

thanks for your thoughts.

I believe that, unless your are a professional race car driver, you would not be able to identify which parts were in your car if you performed a blind test.

It's all marketing hype for the egos of high end car buyers.

Just paint some pink/purple stripes on your current springs. Instant Silverstone.

I'm not a professional anything, but I can tell the difference beteeen the adaptive system vs. the low cost shocks. Just take a fast long sweeper that has some rough pavement a few times, and the seat of your pants will tell you which is which. And that's with only 9,000 miles experience in an XKR

Now , is it worth it to outlay $1,600 for a set of new correct shocks ? That, I can't tell you.

I'm new to owning a Silverstone, and Michigan roads are bad, at best. Mine bottoms out and rubs the liners when hitting bumps at freeway speeds, and has Yokahama replacement tires, same exact metric size as the stock Pirelli's. I've rubbed the fender (damaged) turning left into driveways from the tread of the tire hitting the inner edge of the fender (now bent). I'm just guessing, I'm looking at replacement shocks and coil springs.....I sure as hell don't want the front end lower. Thoughts?

To start, you need new front upper shock mounts. You lose about an inch when those are shot, which it sounds like they are. While you are in there, replacing the shocks and the springs is advisable if your wallet allows it. Buy the polyurethane ones from welsh.

Not sure if any difference between Silverstone and xkr but measure from wheel center to the apex of the wheel arch. This should be about 15.5 inches give or take. Id you are at that springs are good. If your pocket book allows, then get a set of replacement dampers and you'll be okay

For the past 7 years I've been finding out what parts are different for our Silverstone/R Perf cars. This is what I've found:

Shocks
Springs
Front Swaybar (bushings as well)
Rear Swaybar (bushings as well)
Steering rack (bushings as well)

I feel like I'm missing a few more for the front suspension differences, I'll come back if I am.

Still a learning-in-progress - fact being I just found out the Rear Hub Carrier has an R' Perf as well? Didn't know that. Looks like the Front Vertical Link has something different for the R package as well... SNG catalog is pretty helpful with seeing what's different for this package.

Do you have part numbers for these parts?

Thanks.

Is the front suspension coils broken down by VIN?
I am trying to understand if JLM21276 is the correct set for me. I have a 2001 XKR Coupe with the adaptive suspension. VIN A11709.

I see why you asked. Confusing for your vehicle. If someone could validate that your A prefixed vin is after "031303", I think you have: JLM 20710. same one used in later N/A CATS convertible.

I'm not surprised you asked, whew.

l think you need JLM20689. This is confirmed by jaguar classic parts lookup. Out of curiosity l checked and they are available from Jag, are you sitting down... $1304.69AUD each.
