All of a sudden the doors on my 2001 XK8 won't lock. When i lock them with the remote or push in the inner door handle they pop back open on their own. Any body ever have this problem?

 

Many posts about this problem.

Most likely to be the drivers door ajar switch sticking. Worth checking both doors, trunk and hood. Give them a bit of lubrication and see how you go.

Crazy I check out the car and it hasn't done it since yesterday. Gremlins again.

My 2000 'vert did the same thing when I bought it.

What I didn't know was that there is a tiny 'door' at the opening of the ignition switch that is forced open when the key is inserted, and closes when the key is removed; this tells the car's computer when the key is there, even if the engine (and accessories) are off.

On my car that little ignition door was stuck in the open position all the time, leading the car's computer to believe that the key was always in the ignition switch, so it wouldn't allow the doors to lock. (This is to keep you from accidentally locking the car with the key in the ignition. As long as that little ignition switch door is open--or stuck open--the doors won't lock.)

A little bit of WD40 on a Q-tip got the little door hinges working again, and fixed the constant 'door chime anytime a door is open' annoyance, and also allowed me to start setting the car alarm. This was one of the first repairs that I did.
