Want to lower rear of xkr 1 inch.want to cut the factory springs. Any ides how much to remove? I was thinking 1 coil? Car is too high in the rear but I don’t want to purchase new string rings that drop at 1.5 inches I think that’s too much. Just want to get an inch. Otherwise I would have to screw with the fronts to maintain good stance...... replies appreciated
Trouble about cutting springs, old school way, is that you’d mess with their E rebound characteristics. Basically car may sit right but will bounce a lot.
Lots if aftermarket options which have adjustable heights. Easier to install too and adjust to where you want them to be. Did it on a BMW Z3 10 years ago.

Which Z3 did you have? I have a 1998 1.9 in black.
It was a 1996 Z3, Blue with cream interior, which I upgraded to a reconditioned 2.5L engine. Didn’t have a tooled up garage back then so mainly sourced the mechanical parts for a local garage mechanic to fit. I mostly just did the interior R&R with a small collection of tools in the household toolbox.
Major challenge I expected was the auto transmission, but luckily the reconditioned engine came with a manual box! Phew! Made the ECM easier to find. Local tuning company helped on that.
When it came to to sell it on, strangely it was a girl who bought it.
Jlewis468. I suppose it can be done but it’s a bit of a cowboy thing to do on a high-performance Jag!!
If you are just touching the rears then here are a few considerations that I can think of. I’m sure there’s other issues too! :-
* The suspension on these are finely set-up with a CATS system (Think it was standard on XKR), the front-to-rear stability will be affected in certain cornering situations.
* If your car has auto headlight leveling, then you will need to somehow compensate at the rear sensor linkage.
* There will be an issue with the trimmed spring because the bottom coil fits into the cast seat moulding of the wishbone. If you trim off the bottom coil, then the spring radius will be bigger and it’s different curvature will not seat correctly. Also, the top of the spring is flattened to engage within a cup retainer. Trimming off the top coil with cause the load to sit unevenly and the spring will bend a little sideways. I think the cup will eventually damage.
Personally, I don't think you should do it. It is what it is :-)
