2001 XKR Plastic Tensioner Break
I have got a 2001 XKR with about 100000 kms on it. The plastic secondary tensioner snapped, causing the valves to hit the pistons and the engine blew. I am wondering if anybody has had similar problems and what there thoughts are on a dealer giving you a heads-up on this problem before it occurs. There was service bulletin out there discussing the issue and how dealers should respond to the issue.
Any comments are appreciated.

I was very lucky at about 54,000 miles. I changed mine and they were both cracked halfway down. I posted pictures on the forum. At 100,000 KM or 60,000 miles you should have checked yourself. I'm not sure if the dealer has any responsibility if it's out of his warranty. Maybe others can comment.

Sorry for your misfortune. A valve cratering a piston is for sure an expensive situation.
On paper, I'm afraid the dealer is not responsible, though they surely should have informed you of the risk. That said, there have been cases where a dealer has gone out of his way to minimize the pain, in the hope of maintaining good customer relations. It all sort of boils down to what kind of dealer you're working with, and what kind of relationship you have with him.
If you don't find the dealer going out of his way to help you here, I'd look for a competent independent. Probably much cheaper that way.
Good luck.

I assume you got the car from a dealer? They want to make a sale, they are not ganna tell you, OH BY THE WAY. You would have made them fix it or have left with out the car. I am sorry to hear of your shitty luck.
I know while I owned my car and to all that looked at it while I was selling it, I told them ALL about this issue. I said, I don't care if you don't buy my car, if you look at others in such and such year range, ask if that repair was made, if they looked at you crooked and went HUH, or said no, then I told them to walk away from the car, period!
