Default 2002 XKR rearview mirror question

The windshield mounter rear view mirror on my car has a problem with not holding adjustment. It will not stay in position. It appears that there has been a problem before I owned the car as it looks like someone has put silicone or something on the "ball" joint where it mounts and adjusts. It also appears that there is some sort of "collar" that may provide the needed tension that has come loose.
Has anyone experienced this? I am guessing that I may need to source a replacement mirror.
Any reliable sources for this mirror?
The car/mirror does have rain sensing wipers and auto headlights.

I had the same problem with mine - ended up buying a new mirror. There's an Acura mirror that is the same mirror but without rain sensor and auto headlights - much cheaper than the Jaguar part so I went with that option.

I got mine at a wrecking yard. Half the price of a new one.

There is a metal ring that slides down over the mirror paws to grasp the ball. If it has popped loose your mirror will not stay put.

It is not fun to get back in place, and you need to be cautious to not break any of the paws off in the process.

Putting some time into planning before you start the reaffixing is advised. Good luck!

Sometimes one of the three paws may be broken and missing; and if this is the case, the metal collar will not hold the ball tight causing the mirror to vibrate.

I would guess that is the case in my situation. Looking through the windshield, i can see a small collar that is not tight. Would you happen to know if that part is available somewhere? I would hate to have to buy a new mirror due to a part that would be just a couple dollars or less. thank you for your answer.

The ring, if loose, can be pushed back in with care. There is no chance it broke.

If the paws are broken, then a new mirror is in order... Or you can go to ridiculous extremes to graft a new pair to the old mirror like I did.
