Default 2003 XK8 issues

I am getting a noise that sounds like it is coming from behind the instrument panel sometimes when the car is first started. It sounds like 2 clicks of a solenoid and then after a few seconds, it happens again.

Any ideas?

Also the DSC system problem keeps recurring. I have cleaned the ABS sensors and it will go away for a day and then it comes back. Once it came on as soon as I started the car before I even put it in gear
Doesn't hurt anything other than i guess I have not ABS.
Any ideas?

Now when i put the top down, it acts like it will not release and then re-latches at the front top bow. If i push up on the front top bow while hitting the button to put it down, it releases and goes down fine. It goes up with no problem.
Ideas?
Thanks

I don't think anyone is pissed off at you, this a great group of friendly people. Sometime life gets in the way and folks are busy.
Now to your problem, from all of the things you are describing you have a battery problem. My first thought is that it is on its last legs, but another thought comes to mind.
1. Make sure the battery cable connections are clean, bright and tight.
2. Check the ground connector that runs from the engine mount at the engine transmission to the chassis.
3. You might also want to have your battery load tested.
The system runs on the battery not the alternator. Something is effecting the battery voltage. DSC requires the most sensitive for modules and is first to throw up low voltage flags.

Pantera,

Nope, you haven’t pissed anyone off, at least not me. Lots of problems and some we’ve seen many times.

1.ABS - as you’ve cleaned the sensors (and reluctor cog?) So it’s probably a low battery. Is the car driven only occasionally? Put the battery on a good long charge and hopefully the problem goes away. If not you’re into the Jag TSB fix of removing the ABS module, and cutting it open to solder the power pins

2. The top latch needs help opening. Probably low or bad fluid in the hydraulic pump in the trunk. Easy to inspect- remove trunk right wall trim and pump is on top of the rack. There are two level marks on it. Top up of low. Changing out the fluid is probably a good idea if you think it’s OEM from the factory. Worst case scenario is that the hydraulic latch is failing and you’ll have a green shower to look forward to the future. Remove the overhead cabin light console to check for tell tail drip signs.

Default Noise from instrument panel.

Needs some more details on this one. Lots of relays work between turning key to I, On and Start. Is there actually a problem?

Firstly in my 99 XK8, the loudest click I get on start up is when I press the brake pedal to move the gear stick out of Park. This is just a solenoid releasing the gearstick. Other loud sounds are related to AC climate control actuators.

Hi its summer and the weekend so lots of members will have been cruising or chillin so not available on forum, patience is sometimes required to get good answers

My 2002 facelift Xk8 died about a year ago, breakdown guy eventually diagnosed as poor earth connection but at the boot battery to body, not battery, think there are a couple underneath the battery cover.
He cleaned one and I did the others when home, interestingly the car had died a couple of times in the 6 months before but always restarted. It seems to have cured that too?
Hope this helps
