I believe that issue can be resolved with programing a module. Take it to the dealer.

The deal with reprogramming it is that suppose you have a burglar inthe car, then when you get close to the car he or she can start it, NO PROBLEM! I don't know if the car will go far with out the key in the car, but I think that the key needs to be close by just to start it!

The problem is with the Keyless Vehicle Module not communicating with the smart keys. Your dealer needs to replace the KVM and both keys. After this you will not have any further issue. Also to the previous post, you cannot start the car with the key outside period. There are three antennas for the outside, 1 in each door and 1 in the trunk. This allows only the holder of the key to lock and unlock. The KVM then registers key being inside. You can however restart vehicle within 5 seconds of shut off even if key is not inside. Hope this helps. Also is your Vin (last 6) are pre B18000 or so then there is a recall recall K013 to address all key issues. It is software updates for KVM, door modules, instrument cluster etc. Good luck. Nice car you have there.
