93 Octane?
Hi all,
Can anyone answer this question I have re: 93 Octane gas?
None of the local stations carry 93 Octane anymore in the area. I live in. I am stuck using 91 Octane Gas.
I know from several years ago my 2003 XK8 was more lively with the 93 Octane gas. It was a noticeable difference.
So my question to all of you. Do any of those Octane boosters work and how many cans would I need to make a difference. I want the old acceleration back at least once in awhile.
Thanks to anyone who responds to my post.

For over 55,000 miles / 3.5 years I’ve been using Phillips 66 branded 91 octane (all gasoline/ no ethanol). When on a road trip I’ve used whatever 91 octane I could find. Rarely I’ve had a 15+ gallon fill up with 93 octane, with no perceptible difference in performance
if there were any issues with 91 octane I haven’t noticed. The car is running very well, I can’t wait to get it on another cross country trip.

Thanks for your post.
I have no problems whatsoever running 91 octane BUT I know that the 93 octane gives my car a noticeable performance boost.
I was wondering if the cans of Octane boost work and if you need more than 1 can per 14 Gallons
Thanks again

Regarding the use of the octane boost products , when they claim to raise x amount of gallons by “one point”, that does not mean 1.0 octane. It means 0.1 octane.
you have to use many many cans per tankful to go from 91 to 93 .
perhaps the reason you are feeling a performance boost going from 91 to 93 is because you have a car with a higher compression ratio than I have, ie XK8 vs XKR.
You can try
https://www.pure-gas.org/
they will list 93 octane stations is your area
i see Shell stations in Green Bay & Oshkosh with 110 octane listed ((airports perhaps))

Here in Europe I use 95 octane fuel in my XKR (equivalent to 91 in the US). The car runs just fine, in fact the manual specifies 95 RON fuel and says that 98 can also be used, but makes no mention of any performance increase. It also states that fuel with up to 10% ethanol can also be used. It would be interesting to actually do a back to back comparison between 95 and 98 and see what difference, if any, it makes.
EU 95 octane = US 91 octane
EU 98 octane = US 93 octane.
EU 95 octane = US 91 octane
EU 98 octane = US 93 octane.
