Default 97 XK8 rear speakers

On my XK8 the rear speakers seem to be held in place with tabs of screen mesh... is there a way to secure them better?
thanks Mike in TN

Mike, the drivers should be bolted (screwed) in. I'd bet they are or you'd hear distortion that would drive you nuts with any kind of volume since these speakers produce bass.

The speaker grills are just held in with a tab.

Gosh what made you say the drivers were not screwed in?

Johnken,
My mistake.... I should have said "speaker Covers"..... just woundering how to bend the "speaker cover" tabs once you put them back in.

Oh ok , no problem. You should please put your car type in the signature. I've got a convertible and can see the tabs from the area where the top folds down. Let me take another look when the rain subsides and I'll follow up unless someone else can answer.

Yes - as John says, the rear speaker "mesh" is held in to the panel cover by fairly insubstantial metal "tags". Sounds like somebody has tried to get at the the drive units by removing the "mesh" (which is possible) rather than removing the whole side panel.

The good news is that on a 1997 car, the rear speakers are actually bolted to a very substantial enclosure, so are never going to rattle or vibrate. If you remove the small "capping" on the door 'B' pillar - seat belt Torx bolt and a couple of small screws, you can get a piece of metal or long screwdriver or suchlike down behind the "mesh" to bend the tabs back tight again. But - don't worry - nothing is going to fall out even if it looks a bit "loose".
