97 XK8 Trip Computer fails to reset
AFTER Pressing the TRIP button on the end of the left column stalk switch to select a trip function the LCD is functional. However none of the buttoms on the dash clutter do anything. 000 will not reset any of the displays after holding for 3 seconds or more. A/B does not switch A to B , CLEAR and mi/km also do nothing.
Any insightful tips will be appreciated.
Another thread suggested a Battery disconnect; I just put in a new battery and thats when this happened!!

Well, you will need to check the resistance on some circuits.
First see what the resistance is between the brown-red wire going to the switch cluster and a ground, such as the rim of the cigarette lighter. It should be no more than a couple of ohms. If it is a large resistance, you may have a broken wire.
Then check the switch by checking continuity between the
-Brown-red wire and Blue yellow wire with A/B switch pressed
-Brown-red wire and Orange wire with 000 switch pressed
-Brown-red wire and yellow wire with Clear switch pressed
-Brown-red wire and red wire with m/km switch pressed
If there is no continuity on these then the switch is the problem
If all of the above checks out OK then the instrument cluster itself may be at fault.

Well the ground connection (brown-red) is common to all the switches, so it is possible that it internally has an open circuit.

The reset is very counter-intuitive. It doesn't work as you would expect it.
You don't use the A/B button on the dash, you use the end of the turn signal stalk to select A/B/gas milage/etc...
I'm fairly certain you use 000 to clear the trip, you need to hold it for more like 6-10 seconds, if memory serves correctly.
