Default 97 XK8 window problem (not usual one)

Hi,

The driver side window on my XK8 just keeps dropping every time I pull the handle. What makes it different to all the other problems I have searched is that when I try to do a reset the window wont go all the way up, it just judders in the same spot about 1.5 inches from the closed position. I can pull it up manually but it just drops back to a position 1.5 inches or so from closed.

Any ideas? The battery is fully charged, and the passenger window is perfect.

Thanks for any replies.

Sounds like a mechanical problem, do you feel like you have to physically move the window up against any resistance?

Yes, I have to use 2 hands to pull it back up all the way, then hold it there while I close the door and then it just drops back.

When you depress the toggle switch on the door handle does the window go up and down fully? When the window is all of the way down and you still have your finger on the switch does it sound like anything grinding?

If so the window drive motor could have a broken cam gear internally. Usually if the motor is bad you can audibly hear something going on or the window function strangely when the switch is depressed.

Just some thoughts to help.

Sounds like either bad window rails, or the channel rubber for the window slides came out keeping it from going up and setting the limits which is why you get the window drop. Pull the door panel, and pull off the outter waist seal(lifts off the door) so you can look at the channels and regulator rails

Hi all, thanks for the replies -

The window goes all the way down and I can even hear the reset click, but on the way up it gets to within 1.5 inches of the top and judders up and down and thats all it does.

Ill pop the door panel off tomorrow and have a look,

Cheers,

Default Update -

I took the door card off today, and it seems there are 4 teeth missing off the curved rail that runs the window up and down, and its right where the window judders that tghe missing teeth are in the mechanism. Does this make sense. So i guess I gotta go find a new window mechanism, I assume its the whole thing I need?

Just a thought when the window is all of the way down are there any teeth left below the lowest point? Next does the rail with teeth look like you can flip the teeth portion to get the bad teeth on the bottom? Just a thought it may save you some coin if you can just flip the toothed glide.
