Default 99 XK8 T C Tensioners

I have a very very smooth quite running XK8 with 70000 miles,I am going to do the tensions for piece of mined but should I do primery and secondery,Kiwi

While there have been reports of primary system failures, the vast majority of problems occur with the secondary tensioners. Most owners change only the secondary ones.

Thanks,I am sertain I will change both tensioners,guids,water pump etc,I would hate to to have any fail on me for the sake of a couple of backs,Thanks Kiwi

It's not just the couple bucks but a big jump in labor time and complexity.

You didn't mention wether or not you are DIY or going to have it done. Regardless I think you are on borrowed time. I just changed my upper ones and put lots of pictures on the forum. Suggest a search unter my call sign. It has been reported that the primary ones do give some noise warning. And like test point says there is a big jump in labor and special tools are definitely a big requirement.

With all that said there was an XK8 that came into a shop near where I live after failure at 74,000 miles that resulted in a bill of $8,500.00. This was a good quality independent shop. So Don't delay. There was also a recent post showing pictures of the upper tensioners that were still working but falling apart with pieces gone. He was very lucky.

Yes DIM,I have done domestic engines and high way truck before but no chain over head cam let alone Jaguar,doing ring and bearing job on my XJ6 at preasant,A friend of mine has had a MK 10 for 42 years plus small collection of other Jaguars and tools so I am looking forward to doing mine QUICKLY! Thanks KIWI
