Default 99 XK8 Tranny Problem

During a drive last week there started getting a bit of smoke under hood. I found it was a tranny cooling line. I got to the shop to repair and car was running fine. I picked car up and now tranny is sometimes engaging but also free spinning. It goes into reverse fine, I can get it going by using left side of shifter, but check engine light comes on, transmission fault comes on dash. Code comes up second gear fault. After second gear it shifts fine to 100 mph. From a dead stop I have to play with it and it eventually moves. Is it possible mechanic didn’t fill back up with fluid correctly? He said he did and tranny is shot. If full is this a repairable situation or a tranny rebuild in order?
thanks

I would first check the fluid level then check your shifter cable adjustment. If the car shifts ok in manual the shifter cable is often the cause.

Not shifting ok, but able to move car after playing with gas pedal. Once moving past 30 it’s ok. Shift cable wasn’t touched

The shifter cable has a tendency to stretch causing it to go out of adjustment. If you put the shifter in manual mode #4 and drive and it shifts properly I would check the cable adjustment.

What are the OBDII codes?
