Question AC blows hot air

Hi everyone,

I have a problem with my AC on my 1997 XK8 convertible.
It suddenly blew hot air since yesterday.

I checked the AC codes and it shows fault code 24, I also checked all AC related fuses but they are all good.

I noticed a burned electric smell in the fuse case on the left side of the motor though.
Could it be a relay like the AC water pump relay?

Thanks

Carsten

The A/C relay is in the LH engine compartment fusebox. All seven relays in that box are brown which doesn't exactly help identification!

The relays are arranged like a letter 'T'. The A/C relay is top left. The one immediately to the right of it is for the front foglamps. You can check the A/C relay by substituting it for this one. First check the foglamps work, then switch the relays and check the foglamps again.

Graham.

Default heater valve

Thank you Graham,

I checked the relay but it works fine.
The problem seems to be a stuck heater valve, if it is open it produces so much heat that the AC can´t get it cold.
I just bought a valve on ebay and get it next week.
I will tell you later if the problem get ficed with that.

Here's an idea: Wait overnight for the engine to cool down completely. Then start the car and immediately call for full cold A/C.

The engine coolant will still be cold and not able to heat the cooled air coming out of the vents.

If there is no cooled air, the problem is NOT the Water Distribution Valve Assembly.

The Valve is very difficult to access and replace.

Hi Paul,

I did exactly that this morning and the AC worked fine until I checked the maximum heating temperature.
Now the it is stuck again producing hot air.
Is the valve that hard to access?
It seems that I only have to remove the throttle body.

Best

Carsten

Actually, I haven't done this. The Heater Aux Pump is hard to access. The Distribution Valve is more easily reached, as you say, by removing the Throttle Body.
