Exclamation Accident with the Jag

Hi Everyone! Well, I'm afraid that even though the accident wasn't all that bad, the insurance company is probably going to total it (easy to do 6-7K worth of damage these days I'm afraid ). So, I am in the market for a 2000-2005 XK-8 Coupe that has been spoiled and babied to extremes haha, hopefully within 300-400 miles of Greensboro NC so I can come see it via (cough) rental car lol.

I anyone has one, or knows someone who has one, please PM me or post here with details.

As always, thanks to you all. I feel like I lost a friend today.

Hey Skid Mark, sorry to hear of your "loss"

To any car lover having uor baby wiped out and then being written off / totalled is a gut wrenching feeling.

I really hope you get the car you want and soon.

Good luck

My heart goes out to you. When a white van man T'ed my first XK (see garage) I cried, good job it was raining, but eventually managed to replace it.

But you know what they say you never forget your first!

I'm upset enough that my baby was keyed, I can't imagine having to write the thing off. Good luck finding a replacement

Sorry about your mishap. There is always the chance that you can get them to fix the car if you can show that it was in excellent condition and is really worth more than the total price. On the other hand you might stumble on some great car in your search for a replacement. In either case best of luck!

Thanks H20boy, that would be great! I'll check online to see if something looks good as well, and get your opinion on it.

there is a nice looking R - Coupe with 45K miles on ebay for $21,780. If I was in the market, I'd be checking this one out. It was just relisted, as it did not sell at the offer of $21,100. Good luck finding your replacement.

Sorry to hear about your accident. Even more sorry to hear they're writing it off on you.

I know it's sick to ask, but do you have any pictures of the accident?

No one seems to ever come out on top after a total wreck. Maybe you can find a replacement car that's even better. however. There are just so many ultra low mileage Jaguars on the used car market throughout the U.S.--5K-6K yearly mileage.

I've never seen a car brand that's to quickly sent to the salvage yard as a Jag. I spotted a XK8 in New Jersey in EBay with a salvage title that just needed a rear bumper cover--a $1,000 item + paint. It's a shame, as a car with a previous salvage title is never worth more than 50%-60% of one with a regular title.

On the other hand, we should be thankful that there are so many low damage, low mileage XK8's in the salvage yards. They provide us with a much needed supply of used parts--that we'd never be able to afford from any Jag dealer.

Thanks for the wishes, everyone.

No pics, sorry, thought the claims adjuster should have a gaggle of them when finished!

HardMat, I saw that R model, but would rather avoid the turbo maint. I did see this one however, very similar. Would appreciate thoughts on it from anyone. Not normally a fan of black cars, but would make an exception in this case! Jaguar : XK | eBay

The Anthracite Coupe on E-Bay looks great, in my opinion. Love it. You'll need info on the usual mechanical issues, but overall the car presents very well. And although the open air is great, the beauty of the coupe is unsurpassed.

Just seen a car sold on fleabay UK, 2000 Silverstone XKR convert £4700. Cat D write off (thats the least damage in the UK and means basically cosmetic only). That is cheap.

not too shabby Ebay example, though it is only a 2000...lots of considerations mechanically, like starting over again. I can appreciate the front grill swap too with the R's components, looks good on that black

Well, my Jag is being towed to this facility (reccomended by the local Jag dealer) today for a damage estimate. My initial description of the damage to the person at the other end of the phone yesterday was met with some cautious optimism, saying that it didn't sound all that bad, so we shall see. This body shop is certified for aluminum structural repairs, so I hope it's at the right place!

Anyone heard of this shop?

Your car is not aluminum, so I wouldn't worry about that part.

Well, the shop called this morning and said the frame was bent in addition to the other 11K worth of damage to the front, so the car will be totaled.

Next I talked the owner of the black XK8 on eBay about the chain tensioners, and he said he had both valve and cam tensioners replaced a year and a half ago so I bought the car, and it should be here Sunday.

Good thing I had already been looking around. Then again, I'm always looking around.
