Default Aftermarket radio suggestions?

I'm looking to replace the stock radio on my 2000 xkr convertible. Has anybody had any luck with a similar project? I'd like to retain the steering wheel controls if possible. (My CD changer in the trunk/boot has conked out) Any advice on a brand/product that is easy to work with?

I currently have a Kenwood KDC-BT73DAB

It has DAB, IPod, BT and allows you to match the colours of screen and switches seperately. It also uses the steering wheel controls.

The how too can be found here:

I replaced it with a JVC AV-41BT. Unit is meh, but I was able to use an intermediate device to keep the steering wheel controls.

If you search my username, all the parts should be listed in my build thread.

Bottom line, yes, there are lots of 1DIN options out there. Deviating from 1DIN is where it gets dicey.

Best!

Hey Taxman-

I'm in the process of researching aftermarket options myself - and my pet peeve (gaudy, ostentatious LEDs and big logos) is limiting my selection somewhat. That said, I think I'll be going with an option from Continental of all people. They offer an AM/FM/single CD Player with Bluetooth and an AM/FM Bluetooth receiver (no CD). You won't find these at Best Buy or the like, but they look very simple, and even somewhat match the matte button look of the HVAC & original cassette player:

Here's a link to a supplier in the U.S. -

You'll need to obtain a steering wheel control adapter - I've replaced radios in Nissan and Subaru cars and had great success with the Axxess ASWC-1, and would expect it to work just as well in this application, given how much customization the devices have.

Just remembered; the only downside for the Continental radios is that they donŽt have a line out - only speaker outs, so if you are planning on using an external amplifier youŽll need to get creative.

I grappled with the same issue a couple years ago when I got my XKR. After much research, I had the following installed https://www.crutchfield.com/S-YEdF2n...-KD-AVX77.html

This is one of the few fully touch screen single din units ever made. Unfortunately, it is no longer produced but you can find one on eBay as I did. I also created a sweet looking Jaguar logo for the background.
