Going to tint the windows on my XK8 and eventually want to change the rear bumper. What do you guys think of this new look? Do you know anyone who makes a bumper like this?

 

See that bump out in the lower/stock picture? There's a steel bar in there that will save your car if you get rear ended. Move that steel bar inward and you'll be taking your car/trunk existence straight into the path of total destruction if you even get tapped from behind.


My bumper is currently off my car for repairs, and now that I know what's in behind there, I honestly don't know how you'd do it unless you are a car repair professional. It's not going to be a simple weekend venture. You'll need to modify the under the trunk storage space and the impact support sockets that hold the bumper supports. You're looking at a major undertaking that could effectively kill you and your passenger and completely void your insurance coverage.


Personally, safety should come before esthetics.

 

barf. oh well. sounds like i'd be asking for too much trouble.

 

.... but I do like the tinted windows with that paint color
