Default Automatic window roll down - RESOLVED

2000 XK8 Coupe. Is there any way to stop the windows from automatically rolling down when you open or close the doors? I looked in the manual & could not find that info. Getting rainy here & I don't want water to get inside.

Unfortunately not. It is exactly the way they are supposed to work.

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to XK8/XKR forum. This is the place to post technical questions about your model.

The windows should drop about half an inch to clear the door seals. If they are fully opening, you have a fault.

They roll down just a hair, enough to let water get in. I do not store mine, I bought it to drive it, so I often venture out in the rain. When I park at a store or some other place, the small opening lets water get in

SC, sounds like they need adjustment.

Sit in car close doors, engine on. Press open hold for a few seconds after reaches the bottom. Press hold close. Hold for few seconds once closed. Repeat 1 time.

Fixed?

BTW this is common with low battery.

When you open the door it should drop about a quarter inch and when you close the door it should go back up. Anything else and you have a fault.
You could try the reset procedure first. If that doesn’t work then you may have to look at the mechanism itself.

What Johnken says and you'll hear a little click when they reset. Hold the button till you hear it (Radio off please!). Same for up. The reason they drop a bit when the door is opened is to clear the door sill. If you were to try and close the door with the window all the up the glass will hit and could crack. That said, try the reset procedure if they drop more than about 1/2" which is the norm.

Thanks for confirming the resolution of your issue. I've added "RESOLVED" to your thread title.

Too often questions are asked on our forums and members are then left wondering if the advice worked because an OP never bothers to come back with the result.
