Default Back on the road after 3 weeks (Sepangs refurbished)

It was a long wait - much longer than I had anticipated - but the shop has done an excellent job and the 20" Sepangs are now better than new (they also painted and clearcoated the insides). I bought 4 new stainless steel trims, too, so the shop fitted those.

The car was in my garage on axle stands for three weeks, so it felt good putting the wheels back on this morning and taking her for a spin.

While the car was off the road I removed the wheel arch liners and painted them black, and also fitted a sports exhaust, so the downtime was well used.

Frog, looks stunning mate and thanks for the sharing. Beautiful looking ride you lucky bugger.

Disappointed too though....I thought a senior member like yourself would have close ups of the refrubed wheels, maybe a write up ofthe car on stands and cleaning / refinishing the liners ready to accept the "NEW" wheels

I didn't do a write-up simply because I copied everyone else's work, Reverend Sam's in particular. Painting the wheel liners was his idea, as was where to jack the car, etc. I actually put my axle stands under the axles (there's a clue in the name, I guess ), but that hardly warrants a write-up, does it?

Yes, I am happy with the way my car looks, but I can't take any of the credit: it's all down to other members on this excellent forum

I didn't really take any close-ups of the wheels, but you can see how nice and shiny they are on this shot:

They look beautiful, I've got another set of Detroits that I'm going to refurbish one of these days. I've already have the rings for them It's just a matter of doing it. Nice Job

Did you take the car back to the UK?
Background doesn't look like Alpes Maritimes!

For a fair-weather second (or third) car I tend to prefer the convertible for obvious reasons but I have to admit the coupé really does look better (same with the original E-Type btw!). Awesome dude! Name: thumbsup.gif

The errant leaf on the ground completely destroys the continuity of the picture.

Just kidding!

What is that color called? It's gorgeous.

Well spotted, that man. We live in the north of France, but spend a fair bit of time on the south coast (Nice/Monaco), and I thought an Alpes-Maritimes plate looked nicer

I wouldn't say the coupé looks nicer than the convertible. I opted for the coupé, because I also owned a Mazda MX5/Miata at the time and didn't want or need two convertibles. Comparing an XK to the E-type is praise indeed

Lol, I noticed the leaf after I had taken all the pictures! I suppose I should have PS'ed it out. The colour is called Frost Blue. It's pretty rare, but I really wanted it and so snapped up the car when I found it for sale in January. I think this image is of an American frost blue convertible (a European would never willingly opt for chrome wheels )

Thanks Having paid just £13,000 for the car back in January, it is now up to the standard I wanted. It just needs the supercharger belt swapping and a gearbox oil change next month and my hard work will be almost complete.

I waxed the wheels this morning with this stuff. It's a lovely pink colour with a texture like chocolate mousse, but it does protect the wheels from unsightly brake dust.

Lovely, your wheels very classy and dandy . My staff had a hard way of removing the adhesive from my wheels too lol

As for the brake dust , I think you need ceramic brake pads

Looks great! I have the Sepangs as well. They're my favorite of all the factory BBS rims too.

I agree. In fact, just between you & me, I don't like the Detroits very much, too aggressive... No offense to those who have them

Yeah, agreed... they look too aggressive, though I do like them... though not nearly as much as the Sepangs. Looks like you have the Recaros as well. God, after sitting in my Recaros, the standard factory seats feel like park benches... flat.

One thing about the Detroits they are easy to clean. Our Lexus had wheels similar to the Sepang, and after getting the Jag I replaced them with a 5 spoke, makes it much easier to keep clean. Also the Detoits help show off the Brembos. I agree they do look aggressive, but that's one of the reasons I bought the car.

Yes, the Sepangs are a pain to keep clean, but I think that's what makes them look classy. They do hide the Brembos a bit more than I'd like, though.

As for the Recaros, before I bought the car they looked ultra comfortable in the photos, but I was a bit disappointed: they're not exactly uncomfortable, but the headrest part is too far back and I find them a bit narrow and unsupportive. I find myself sitting on them, rather than in them. The stock seats on my 2009 VW Golf GTI were much better.
