Default Backlit Radio Control Buttons?

OK, let's try it here. I have a 2000 XK8. I noticed tonight the radio controls were not back lit like the climate control buttons. What am I missing? Thanks, Mike....

They should be backlit. as I understand it having looked into it myself, (the screen on mine is no loonger backlit), They are a faff to change, unlike the climate lights which are swap-able.
you need to remove the radio, take the box apart and solder new lights onto the board. I am pertty sure there is a thread on the procedure on here somewhere.
I personally will probably get a second hand radio as its easier. but unfortunately still got bigger problems to resolve before i get to the interior!

This may be leading you up the wrong path... but when my security sounder shorted out in the wing... it tripped a couple of fuses, and the first indication that I saw was some centre console bulbs not lighting up (fog lights and air flow lights from memory). Other components had tripped out as well like the heater not working but the unlit buttons were the first visible symptom.

The radio bulbs may be different but it might be worth quickly checking the fuses in the engine bay before pulling the radio.

I just noticed something else. Last night as we were returning from a day trip I noticed the steering column lights (Cruse control, radio volume/telephone lights were also not illuminated. Could this be a connection to the radio control lights? Thanks again, Mike....

I don't think that any of the x100's have backlit steering wheel controls.

Mine certainly doesn't.

It's not all bad... you just get a bit more touchy-feely with the steering wheel.

Jack.
