Hi laurel, sorry to hear of your loss. My wife died many years ago so I know the pain. I have included a picture of my battery as seen from the back of the car. The positive terminal it to the front of the car. If the battery is out of the car graham's explanation should suffice.

If you attempt to jump start the car note that the owners manual says not to connect the ground cable to the negative terminal, but to another ground on the chassis, such as the spare tire hold down bolt. It would be preferable to charge the battery rather than jump it, but it may be ruined if it discharged completely.

Default Leaking red fluid

Laurel

My condolences on your loss.

Red fluid leaks could be from a number of hydraulic systems on the car. These Hoses get old and brittle and crack.

Could be Power steering, or Brakes maybe even from the transmission. Can you give a better description of where the leak is?

Usual job is to see where the fluid is dripping and then and then try and “chase” the wet trail “up” to find the source of the leak.
