Default BBS Jaguar wheels going out of business??

I keep hearing that the Jaguar BBS division is closing down or has done so and that this will affect the availability of BBS replacement wheels like the 20" Detroit's.

Does any one have confirmation on this please?

XK Racer?? GGG?? Whitey?? Rev. Sam, and don't say get rid of them??

I have a line on a new Oyster colored set but am a little hesitant about how they will look on my zircon blue car at 1200£/$1865, when I have silvers on it now.

cheers,

jj

JJ,

Sorry - I've no more info than having read the same rumour. Mine is on Sepangs and I don't even like to think about replacement wheels.

Hey G;

I see from your posts we have the same color on our cars.

Any thoughts on how the Oyster wheels would look on that color.

I am not familiar with the Sepangs....photos?

Is yours and XKR convertible or Coupe....both are very pretty.

Did you have to have the brakes on your's specially made too?

cheers,

jj

They went bankrupt in 2007, where punch bought them in 2008, en then they went bankrupt again this January 2011 but where able to make a new start iirc.

Well something happened again 2nd of December, you may guess 3 times ;-)

The Motorsport part has already been sold now to Washi Kosan, and they think that still this year they find a buyer for the OEM wheels part, let’s see.

JJ,

Very similar shade. I took this when I collected the 4.2S

BBS Jaguar wheels going out of business??-21-xk8-4.2s-xk8-4.0.jpg

Mine is Sea Frost which was one of the four special colours for the 4.2S and 4.2V cars. Although they were advertised as having all the options, The Brembos cost an extra £1850 on the normally aspirated cars and Sepangs an extra £2000 on both XK8 and XKR. Replacement Sepang is now £750 a wheel from Jaguar.

I've had a look at Oyster Detroit's on eBay. Beautiful design but maybe better suited to a darker coloured car to show the contrast?

Pretty.

I thought Sea Frost was a light green color like Alag's car.

Are both of those your's?

The Oyster's would look good on the Dark blue one.

My car has the Brembo's and Detroit's...I don't know if that was a combination option or ordered separately.

I think I am stuck buying those Oyster's from the ebay guy because I started the process but didn't complete it since there was no option to ship them here.

He says those are the last full set he can get...I have been writing him for about two months and tend to believe him.

We are having a discussion about shipping right now, anyone know how much the Detroit's weigh? I was figuring about 12kg each, minus tires.

Thanks for the info,

cheers,

jj

JJ,

My mistake - it's Frost Blue, not Sea Frost. The Pacific Blue one was my 2001 which I PX'd against the 2005.

Brembos were usually standard on the later XKR's and options on the XK8's. From a 2005 Accessory Catalogue I have, Detroit's were one of many wheel options offered.

JJ - how different is the oyster vs hypersilver?

I have Montreals on mine ... I think this is hypersilver, but can't really tell since I've never seen the oyster shade.

I attached a small picture of mine.

Romy;

Here is the color of the Oyster wheels below.

Are those your new Conti' tires on there?

They look like you would could go off roading with them.

cheers,

jj

I don't know if that photo will show up or if the link will go through because it is showing I have bought them.....gulp.

Might work to see the wheel color if you scroll down.

cheers,

jj

I've got a set of each color of Detroits, oyster and hypersilver. Unless you have them next to each other it's hard to tell the difference. When I picked up the second set The hyper Silver i thought there was a big difference till I put them along side each other.

eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace

Might work to see the wheel color if you scroll down.

So let me understand this. You have a perfectly good set of silver Detroits on your car now and you were "wondering" how oyster might look so you "gulp" put an offer on a set on ebay and now have buyer's remorse? What does your Italian supermodel wife think about that?

Romy;

I don't know about 'Hyper Silver' mine are silver.

Are those your new Conti' Tires on there?

They look impressively 'knobby'.

Here is a photo of the Oyster color.

Don't know if the ebay UK site will open or not since it is showing I have bought them.....gulp. I was just trying to see how much the shipping would be first...never confirmed it....

Triple G;

Have to say the Frost Blue looks very much like the Zircon Blue in our photos.

Was Frost Blue an additional color over the Z.Blue?

cheers,

jj

SG;

Thanks for twisting the knife...shhhh...the Italian Super Model is sitting right next to me working....might have to delete those diamond earrings for Christmas....or cut my throat...before she does.

RC;

Thanks, I was thinking that my self, that the color will be tough to tell apart.

Did you ever mount the Silver Set?

If not do you want to trade for an Oyster set that is going to be under the Christmas tree for me in lieu of anything else for the next five years when the ISMW reads SG's post. Gulp, gulp.....

cheers,

jj

JJ,

The link was still up as few minutes ago - some impulse buy!

There wwere 4 unique colours for the 4.2S and 4.2V:

Satin Silver
Bay Blue
Frost Blue
Copper Black

I agree Frost Blue looks very much like Zircon Blue in the photos but they probably would be a noticeably different shade if parked together.

Thks JJ.
The shade is almost the same - pretty hard to differentiate.

No - those are still the summer tires - BF Goodrich TA KDW2. I am not keen on spending $800-$1000 on all-seasons for a weeklong trip. I think I'll manage with the BFG and just check the weather report as I go. The trip will be more spontaneous that way!

I attach the track picture of the KDW. The tread pattern is kinda far out.

3G;

Not exactly impulse I have been looking for a second set since I started looking for the XKR and as everyone is pointing out they are only going to get more difficult, if not impossible, to source, not to mention more expensive, as time goes on.

Plus I read through some old threads about the dangers of "Refurbished Wheels" with glued and stripped rim bolts covered up.

Not keen on wheel failure at high speeds.

We will just have to find some place to park them next to each other and have a look see for our selves.

Will have to look up a snap of Bay Blue.

I do love the way the coupes look....but the top down look of the Convertible's is pretty good too.

cheers,

jj

Romy;

Yikes those look wild!

Bet they stick well...I had some great Goodrich's way back but they weren't that great in the wet....at that time.

Um I checked the Taos Ski report this morning and they were getting snow....and lots of sunshine.

But as I said before you would not likely need all season tires for a jaunt through that part of the world....don't forget to take the dog, they love road trips.

cheers,

jj
