Smile Blue Ridge Parkway Drive

Is there any interest amongst Forum members in connection with organizing a drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway (N.C. & Va.) this Fall/October and/or next Spring?

Tim, I would be interested. I would be coming in from MD and would be looking to do something in the VA region. As for a fall or spring run, the fall will be much better. I did the Parkway last fall and the colors are unbelievable. I would be interested in doing it again.

I live at the Cherokee, NC end and had planned on a 2-3 day trip north this Fall. We might schedule a north/south 'meet in the middle' time and place. Between the Blue Ridge Pkwy and Sky Line Drive there are 460 miles of twisty roads. Good maps and info here http://www.blueridgeparkway.org/maps.htm

The area gets very crowded the 2-3 week of prime leaf season. I always try to travel a week before or a week after otherwise you will be doing 25 mph behind a long line of RVs.

Default Blue Ridge Drive

I will be driving up from Florida the week of October 12th. I had planned to start at the southern end of the Parkway and drive north into Va, with stops along the way at pre determined points of interest. I am open to suggestions? For the Spring trip I was thinking of doing a winery tour along the Blue Ridge form northern NC up to Front Royal, Va.

Surly we can get more than 2-3 cars heading north. In case you have never driven the Blue Ridge Parkway it should certainly should be on your bucket list. Done it by motorcycle and auto. Going to do it again in the XK8 with the top down.

Come on, sign on.

Sounds good. What are your thoughts on an initial place to hook up with everyone? I will be driving up from Florida and plan to stay first in Highlands, NC. Also, I guess we should plan the number of days for the drive along the Parkway and where we want to make intermediate overnight stops. I had initially thought of stopping in the Asheville area, Little Switzerland/Boone and the Abingdon, Va area. Since you live in Cherokee what do think?

I am definitely interested if I can arrange to take off work. I don't anticipate a problem though.

Tim,

Since you started this, why don't you drive a stake in the calendar as to when you will be in Cherokee, NC. The more weekdays involved, the better. The Parkway is going to nearing leaf season on the south end and fully involved on the north. I live about 100 miles south, about 2 hours but can be there anytime. I say that because the wife is going to be visiting the grandkids that week and I can do anything I want . . . well, almost anything.

Several have expressed interest on another forum. If anyone is active on other forums please post there also.

Default Start Date

Okay, let's plan to meet in Cherokee, NC on Monday, October 12th. My Thought is that we should plan to meet around mid morning, say 9-10:00 AM, at a place to be determined. How does that work for everyone? I am planning for a leasurely two-three days on the Parkway and then back to Highlands, NC before returning to Florida. I think it would be great if we get participation from those on other Jag forums.

About 99% sure I can not make it, though I would love to be part of the group. I've driven my fair share this year already, and I think thats the month for my high school reunion in Illinois. (going by air this time) thanks for the invite though guys. Maybe next year, and I could save the date and week off of work.

Hey guys,
Sounds like a blast, I wish that I could make it. As I just posted on another site, I'll be just back from a Cruise, so I'll be catching up on work and sweating my a$$ off in Bikram, trying to shed the recently acquired extra pounds. However, if you South Florida guys want to stop for lunch in Merritt Island on your way north, I would be thrilled to meet up with you and provide a nice casual Italian meal at my restaurant. It's an easy jog off of I95, and would make a good Pit Stop. Just let me know if anyone is interested.
Regards,
Brian

Hey Donny,
Great, I always like to meet other Jag enthusiasts! I'm on Merritt Island, between Cocoa and Cocoa Beach. Just let me know next time you are coming this way and we'll set it up.
Regards,
Brian

Default Update on Meeting Place

As previously posted we will meet in Cherokee, NC on October 12th. Lets plan to meet at the Hampton Inn parking lot between 9-10:00 in the morning. The Hampton Inn is less than one mile form the center of town and about seven miles from the southern end of the Parkway. Thought we might stop at the Mt. Pisgah Inn for lunch? The first day I had planned to drive to Asheville and spend the night near the Biltmore Estate. For those members who will be participating in the drive, is there any interest in doing the evening meal at the Biltmore?

Day two would be that stretch of the Parkway between Asheville and Boone. Does anyone have a suggestion for a place to do lunch and the eveing meal near Little Switzerland/Boone?

Regards to All.
