Default Boot (trunk) wiring

Hi,

In giving the car ('03 XKR) its regular check over noted the number/license plate lights weren't working. At first thought the bulbs had blown (but both of them?). I then noticed as the boot (or trunk for some of you) opened and closed the lights came on and off. I unclipped the wire from the hinge (the clip on piece there) and gently moved it which had the lights flickering on and off. So it looks like the wiring has gone around that area, worn with open and closing movement.

Rather than cutting the cable open and playing around with the wire, assume it's better to get a new harness. Appears straight forward enough. Taken the right hand boot lining out and traced the wire to the connector. So looks like it clips in there (hopefully easy to unclip), and feeds back out. Not got to taking the liner out from the boot lid. Anything tricky there (tools needed to remove the liner?) and getting at the actual connectors to the lights, is that easy enough to disassemble?

Thought to ask, electrics are not my strong point and presume I'm not the first to have had this problem. Wanted to check before I start ordering parts.

Thanks,
Stuart

No not the first, nearly every picture of an X100 I have seen, has the trunk/boot lid harness spliced in some way and finished with electrical tape. I have not gotten around to securing the outer metal conduit back to the trunk lid on mine as of yet, it is on the list of a handful of little things that needs to be done to the car.

I pulled the entire harness out, pulled the wires, spliced the break and fed the wires back through the loom. Not a big deal since you have to remove/replace the loom anyway if you install a new harness.

Use tape to move the hinge area of the wire repair a couple inches out of the way of the hinge bend. Not a problem as there is plenty of slack in both the wires and the loom.

A dealer repair on another car resulted in the loom being split open, wires spliced and the split taped back together. Ugly and unprofessional on a car of this quality.
