Default A/C Smells

I got my 2000 Jaguar XK8 convertible from my dad when he got a new car. It was sitting in our driveway with a cover on it for about a year before I got my license and could drive it. Now the air/heat smells pretty bad and I'm worried it's moldy somewhere in there. Is this plausible? What else could it be? Thanks in advance!

Some A/C freshener should get rid of the smell.

Several products like this one are available in the UK and there must be equivalents in the US:

Does a good job of clearing stale, damp smells from the A/C systems of vehicles that have been left standing for long periods.

Frigi-Fresh is what dealers use. They usually have it in parts dept.

Sure does!

Tried this at the week-end after reading Graham's post. Also, the previous owner was a smoker and the smell of stale smoke had managed linger in the car for almost 6 months. But not any more.

Okay, the car interior now smells of air freshener. But that's preferable to the smell of damp air-con and stale cigarette smoke.

Best wishes, Colin
